Mug Rugs!

OK, I wasn't so sure about these mug rug things when I first heard about them...I mean honestly, is it useful?! But when my guild was doing a swap, I couldn't help but sign up.  The swaps are one of my favorite parts of what we do - they stretch me to make things I wouldn't normally make, and I love seeing what everyone comes up with.  People are so creative!  This was a grab-bag style swap, which means we don't make for a particular person.  For this one, we were to include a mug in the finished product that inspired our design.  I had some leftover strips from my sea glass mini, so I couldn't help it, I made an even mini-er one!
Truly, I never tire of these colors together.  So soothing and so fresh.  And this white mug seemed the perfect compliment.  I used it's lines as inspiration for the quilting - straight lines in bands of two and three.  Anyway, I like how it turned out!
And this is the back.  I liked adding the bit of print on the back - hopefully a little unexpected but still subtle enough - I feel like it compliments the solids well.  My new friend Sylvia picked this up, and I hope she enjoys it!
I was lucky enough to get this:
The very talented Colleen of Lucky Duck Designs made this fantastically graphic little mini that is such a fun, punchy green.  I have it right by my sewing machine where it can inspire me while I work.  And look at that cute mug!  Thanks Colleen, I love it!

  1. I love mug rugs! I have several and use them mostly in my sewing room so I don't spill stuff near my machine/fabric. I love the set you got -- it's my favorite color!

  2. I thought exactly the same about mug rugs but entered a swap and now use them every day - little mini quilts but useful too. I love your mug rugs.
