To win, please leave a comment on this post answering the following question: What has been an unexpected benefit that quilting/crafting has brought to your life?? You know, aside from having a beautiful quilt/other finished object. For me, I have been so thankful for all the connections with other people who love to make things too. Friendships that started out as having a similar hobby have grown into true friendships. I'm so thankful to be part of such a creative community! Y'all inspire me to keep trying new things, so thanks for that. I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
The details: Giveaway open until Friday May 10 @ 5 PM PST. A winner will be randomly chosen and I will contact them by Sunday May 12. Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you so I don't have to choose another winner! As always, followers new and old get a second entry - just leave a comment saying so!
Good luck y'all!
Oh wow - those are glorious fabrics! Thanks to crafting, sewing, quilting, etc, I have been able to get back in touch with my creative side after many years in the world of science and physics. I am so thankful!
ReplyDeletegorgeous fabrics..I love the color! I started quilting b/c I wanted my children to each have soemthing handmade from me that they could have for years, and then I got hooked, it has become a great way to unwind at the end of the day and also the amount of people that you are able to meet online and talk to and connect with is amazing.
ReplyDeleteFlickr! I love it and the challenge I can get from swapping with other amazing quilters.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother quilted but I never learned how when she was alive. Now years later I often think of her life when I'm patching a quilt and how much harder women had it between sewing/cooking/cleaning without today's modern appliances. She must have given up a lot of sleep to make a beautiful quilt by hand. It makes me appreciate what I have but also yearn for simplicity.
ReplyDeletecynsaw2(at)yahoo(dot)ca
I started quilting after my daughter was born. I was seeing all of these really pretty blankets and quilts and I thought I could do that and I would love for my daughter to pass it on to her future children. It's a way for me to unwind. My husband works nights (Army) so I'm with my daughter 24/7 (which I love) but I fell in love with quilting and the fact that it was a time all to myself. I should be sleeping but it's really awesome when someone else appreciates the work you've done and knowing that you've created an heirloom for another family to treasure and love. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeletemrs(dot)hbraun(at)gmail(dot)com
Definitely the chance to leqarn how to quilt itself is a lovely experience.. not to mention that now I can enjoy blogs even more, share with online friends and eye candying lots of fabrics!
ReplyDeleteFriends and to push myself in new ways! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's the connections and the way that I learn from everyone else. It's so nice to figure this out with people I call friends!
ReplyDeleteI have met a group of quilters that I spend a day once a month and sit and sew. We visit and inspire each other with ideas and sharing projects. I have also "met" many bloggers who share their talents and tutorials and that has helped me learn so many new techniques. I has all been great fun.
ReplyDeleteQuilting allowed me to reconnect with one of my college friends!
ReplyDeleteSewing has gotten me involved in internet giveaways and started my fabric collection
ReplyDeleteI love the excitement my older daughter has every time she sees me making her a new outfit. She hangs out by the corner of my sewing desk practically jumping up and down as she waits for her pretty new clothes.
ReplyDeleteHow it pushes me out of my comfort zone. Everything from new sewing techniques or even connections with other sewists-alike!
ReplyDeleteQuilting really calms me down and helps me think. The little saying "Keep Calm and Sew On" that came from the original "Keep Calm and Carry On" really is true for me. I love your fabrics that you have in your giveaway. Thank you for the chance to win them.
ReplyDeleteI have learned new techniques, about different tools and notions and made friends along the way.
ReplyDeleteI started quilting again after we moved and I had to leave behind my friends and my beloved job. If I didn't have the online quilting and sewing community, I would have been so lonesome and unhappy. It has also let me connect more with the recipients of my gifts - they know that I put my time and heart into their gift. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThose prints are fantastic! I love them! I love making handmade gifts for people so I'm grateful for the skills I have now. It gives me the ability to give something you can't just pick up in some store.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this beautiful giveaway, I really love these fabrics! I love so much about quilting. I realised lately that I love the journey. I enjoy planning, cutting, piecing, basting, quilting, binding. Then I love the result. I love that I have made online friends and real life friends through this common interest. And I love developing a skill, getting good at something. It's a wholesome, worthwhile, fulfilling hobby!
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out it has been a great source of stress relief! It gives me more patience as i focus on things other than problems.. after a few seams life looks more beautiful
ReplyDeleteThe mental peace and clarity quilting has given me has helped me through a very difficult time of grief. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely new friendships. That's been great.
ReplyDeleteI picked up the Farmers Wife sampler quilt book & LOVE everything about it - even if I can never achieve it as I can't cut a straight line or sew a straight line!
ReplyDeleteCrafting has helped me conquer anxiety as my husband has been a student or unemployed--meaning to say we have had a very low-income for a decade. Crafting keeps my hands busy so my head can't be.

What a beautiful giveaway! The passion that has awoken in me for being creative and knowing what I want to do with my life is a really amazing benefit of this quilting journey :) thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMaybe the realization that I can make beautiful things (and horrible ones too) and having fun doing so. So, so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!

I love that having a creative outlet makes ma a happier & calmer person. I also really like the crafty friendships that I have. It's also really lovely to be able to give someone a quilt to cheer them up, to let them know that you care - there's nothing as personal as a handmade gift. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI belong to a sewing forum and I have met 3 people IRL from there. 1 that already lived in my area and then 2 more that have since moved here. We are all friends now and hang out sewing.
ReplyDeleteIt has made believe in my capacities. It's been so funny creating and improvising. And I've found really great friends who also sew and craft.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway, that fabric is really lovely.
Like many people I've met some lovely friends - but maybe more importantly I'm able to tolerate my other half watching endless sport on the tv whilst I'm cracking on with a project = domestic harmony!
ReplyDeleteSewing gave me really a lot. Personal satisfaction for doing something creative and useful at the same time, new friends I found in blogging universe and it completely changed my life! I fell in love with fabrics and opened my own fabric store. It's a job of my dreams but I never expected something like that. It just came suddenly and I love it :)
ReplyDeleteWow - these are gorgeous prints. Thank you for the chance to win them :)
ReplyDeleteSewing has taught me patience. I had to learn to slow down, measure twice (cut once) and just be patient when it comes to making a sewing project. That undoing stitches is sometimes part of the journey and that by giving myself the space I can really make complicated, gorgeous things :)
Other than that I agree with you - connecting with people. I was amazed to see how many people I knew did sewing as well, so we all help each other with little insider tips. It's like bookclub for crafters - hahaha.
The people hands down. I've actually gotten to meet a couple of my blog readers in person and look foward to meeting many more over time. They are always there to support me and help when I need it. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteMost of my friends have now had children. Some of these have now had their third birthdays and still haven't received their 'birth pressies'! I just couldn't find something special enough. I'm now halfway through making them each a personalised quilt - something that they can keep forever (should they want to) and wont grow out of!
ReplyDeleteThose fabrics are beautiful! I just started quilting after my second daughter was born. I love feeling like I am literally wrapping my girls in love when I wrap them in a quilt I made. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like to see the babies grow up and loving their quilts I made them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe friends I have met through quilting are wonderful, it's a great community. I love to see people snuggling under the quilt (yes, just one so far) I made and I can't wait to get more finished to give them to the people I love.
ReplyDeleteIt's great how many awesome people you meet when you start displaying your work or looking for people with the same hobbies and interests as you. It's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteCraft markets and meeting people!
ReplyDeleteI quilt for my grandkids.
ReplyDeleteActually meeting some really great people. In person and online. We all have something in common and we all live around the world. it is great. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love all the people I have met through blogging and the lovely people in my quilt guild. They all get it, if you know what I mean, about what it's like to have the desire to create!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the social aspect. Most of my quilty friends are online, and it's a great way to connect with people.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the challenge of creating bee blocks and stretching my creativity.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics! I would have to agree with you about all of the wonderful friendships I have made in this community. I love how we encourage each other and that there is always someone to cheer you on!
ReplyDeleteI have also made some friends because of quilting and I have been able to give many gifts that have been truly appreciated. The gift giving thing was not really unexpected, but it brings much joy to me and (hopefully) to others.
ReplyDeleteI love the other people I have met through my blog. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI've been really surprised by the community of seamstresses and quilters. Of course there is the community on-line but I've also met and talked with so many people IRL that I never knew were as obsessed with fabric as I am!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the giveaway and the chance to win!
I bake less and hence eat less things that aren't good for me! hadas_a1@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics - thanks for the lovely giveaway. I think an unexpected benefit has been the joy in people's faces when I have given them a hand-made quilt or pillow cover - it is worth all the hard work that goes into them.
ReplyDeleteI like it that my grandchildren can have unique clothing and special items just for them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
vhogsett@comcast.net
I am able to whip up something special for special gifts!!
ReplyDeleteI've learned to believe in myself and try "hard" things. I just started free motion quilting, and while it isn't perfect, I am much better than I thought I'd be at it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! racergirl1313 AT hotmail DOT com
Beautiful fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI am learning that it doesn't have to be perfect. That sometimes those little mistakes add character.
syvisser@gmail(dot)com
I got a new job that I love through my sewing and quilting! Also lots of amazing, generous and talented friends. My life is so much richer because of my sewing!
ReplyDeleteI'm thankful for all the friends I have made from all over the world!
ReplyDeletecarin(dot)aschan(at)hotmail(dot)com
I have been able to make special gifts for my family and friends!
ReplyDeleteSewing makes me very happy and makes me forget all the fact that I have been fighting breast cancer.
ReplyDeleteSewing is my stress reliever in grad school!
ReplyDeleteI always catch myself singing when ever I'm sewing. So I'm going with added happiness.
ReplyDeleteajoyfulnoise(at)live(dot)com
New local friends! I moved to this small town about 7 years ago because my much of my family lives here, but I work out of state 4 days a week, and tend to only socialize with my family (or husband's family) when I'm home. Since I've started quilting/sewing late last year, I've met other folks who share my enthusiasm about sewing/quilting! I didn't know what I was missing until just recently!!
ReplyDeleteIt's saved me money to be able to make things instead of buying them!
ReplyDeletepeachstateme (at) hotmail (dot) com
I suffer from an arthritic type condition, which leave me with chronic pain. I've found that sewing is a great distraction from the pain :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous fabrics you are offering. Without doubt the friends that I have made while taking part in SewCalGal's FMQ Challenge last year. I have learned such a lot from them and hopefully they have learned from me as well! Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely opened up a new world of creativity with the blogging community. I love the free tutorials and helpful tips and hints. I am so thankful for this quilting adventure. Thank you for a lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI find that sewing and crafting relieve my stress and anxiety. Thank you for such a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteOh these are so great! Sewing has brought me closer to my sister :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a stressed out person - even when there's nothing to stress about. Sewing, and crafting in general have been really great for helping me relax a bit, almost therapeutic! Especially hand sewing. :) Thanks for the chance to win such lovely fabrics - I am in love with those dolls!
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt it is the internet friends and relationships that I have created. I started creating when I became a stay at home mom, and these relationships are usually my only "adult" contact during the day!
ReplyDeleteIt has been great for helping me to deal with my perfectionism. Even mistakes can turn out great.
ReplyDeleteBeing a stay at home mom can get boring sometimes...sewing keeps me sane :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
AmandaK@whatthebobbin
Starting the same hobby as my mum means that I can ask her for advice - though she claims I'm learning more through reading blogs now and I've been able to give her a few tips too! Last year I flew home and we went to a quilt festival and took some classes together - it was great to share that with her!
ReplyDeleteLovely colors, thanks for the chance to win! I think quilting has made me a better teacher because I have to break down complex patterns into small pieces and solve problems as I go.
ReplyDeleteWonderful giveaway! Sewing has given me a great sense of calm. Having two tiny girls I often feel stressed, but sewing takes that away!
ReplyDeleteCrafting has helped me to show love with handmade gifts for friends and family, who appreciate the time and effort went into making handmade goodies

ReplyDeleteThe happiness I feel when gifting something.
ReplyDeleteNew blog follower
ReplyDeleteI started sewing to save money on Christmas gifts, but then I discovered it worked like terapy for me. When I want to calm down, I sew! Thanks for the giveaway. Ana
ReplyDeleteAn introduction to all the wonderful bloggers out there!
ReplyDeleteI played under the quilt frame as a kid, so quilting helps me remember family members who have passed away. One died when I was only about six years old, but having her loom and love of fabric still keeps me feeling connected. I also cherish the friendships I have with ladies I hand quilt with and those from the guild I belong to. Our paths likely would not have crossed without quilting. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the freedom it gives me to create. There are so many styles in quilting and I love them all!
ReplyDeletehi! Sewing has become the best way to relax myself.
ReplyDeletemy email elocose at gmail.com
thanks
Well, I don't know if I'd call it a benefit, but it keeps me entertained. When I'm bored on the bus, I play the game of "Can I make that?" And if "yes", "Do I have the pattern already or do I know where to find it?" It also has made me more aware of fashion.
ReplyDeleteI like the matryoshka pattern, the detail on the dresses is amazing! Thanks for offering such gorgeous fabrics!

ReplyDeleteYou took the one I was going to say! :D Hrmmm I started quilting as a way to have stress relief during my dissertation years. However, I didn't realize how much I was craving an artistic/creative outlet until I started it. And how much I need that in my life. So it helped me get in touch with my inner artist. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely giveaway!
I'm brand spankin' new to sewing, but I love the sense of peace that I get when I sit down to sew. I'm also gaining confidence, which is always in need! :)

ReplyDeleteSewing lets me have a creative outlet. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI find quilting to be an enormous stress reliever for me. :)
ReplyDeleteBecause of quilting, I have become unlikely friends with a diverse group of women. We're all at different stages of life and experiences, but we'd stab someone with a rotary cutter for each other if the need arose. Friends like that are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely been connecting with the large community of quilters and crafters online, I've made so many new, wonderful friends!
ReplyDelete(PS - we have an awesome name!)
Sewing and quilting allows me to create and just take time for myself. I love every bit of the process and learning new techniques along the way. I have also met some people I wouldn't have met otherwise and new friends are always a bonus!

I did not realize how calming crafting is. For me, i canbe working on any craft project, they are al calming. I just love working with the beautiful fabrics. Staying connected to family members who live far away. For example, I just drew/made a coloring book for my niece who lives several states away, and whenever she pulls it out she can not only know that I love her, but learn about new things from me without me being there!
ReplyDeleteLike you I have discovered the benefits of friends with a similar interest in my patchwork/quilting. Though I cannot underestimate the benefits that sewing had had on my mental health - it really is a fantastic way to stay sane and have a little stress relief through creativity! Your giveaway fabrics are beautiful - thank you for the opportunity to win them!
ReplyDeleteI think an unexpected benefit is how much I enjoy it and also I am learning to be more PATIENT. ;)

ReplyDeleteSewing is a way for me to de-stress at the end of the day. It's nice and relaxing. Thanks for the giveaway!

Sewing has been an unexpected benefit for me to combat the boredom!
ReplyDeleteSewing is relaxing to me.
ReplyDeleteI meet new people while sharing "knowledge" :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics! An unexpected benefit of crafting has been a boost in my self esteem. I feel like I'm accomplishing things to help others rather than just sitting at home doing nothing productive. Thanks for participating! :)
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and colourful! I have benefited from making quilts by the increased self-confidence. I made a quilt thinking all lovely thoughts about the recipient the entire time. Then I bound it and sent it off into the world. It made me feel so happy that I could create a piece of loveliness that would give someone important a hug from me from far away. It was the making of something, spending hours and hours on it, all for somebody else. I love that feeling.
ReplyDeleteFlexibility. I love how I can pick something up and work and change it up. Artistic expression.

ReplyDeleteQuilting has brought me peace of mind - its my therapy!
ReplyDeleteamyd14_1999@yahoo.com
I am fairly new to quilting, but a few years ago I did a few charm square swaps with a group of my friends. I sewed the binding on my quilt as I recovered from a heartbreaking miscarriage, and as I curled up under my quilt it was if my friends were there comforting me with a big hug. That quilt covers my bed every night and is a reminder of the support and friendship I share with a very special group of women. A quilt is so much more than fabric and stitches.

ReplyDeleteWhat a CUTE bundle of fabric! I love quilting because I'm peaceful when I sew - my thoughts relax! And like you say, the connection with people has been amazing. With other crafters and also with people who don't sew who I sell or give work to. It's really a wonderful thing.

ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway. Thank you for the chance. For me, in addition to the great community of people I've met (and continue to meet), it's finding something just for me and it developing into a passion. I never thought, when I made my first quilt, it would have been so soothing and rewarding to my very soul.
ReplyDeleteIt's given me something that is 'mine' again since I had my little boy and engages my mind in the evenings.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm a follower :)
ReplyDeleteGreat fabrics, what a gorgeous giveaway! Crafting and sewing in particular has really helped me to feel more fulfilled. I hated my day job and got no satisfaction from it, but the satisfaction I get from making something with my own hands is immense!
ReplyDeleteI gives me time to relax and think about other things after a busy day of work and kids.
ReplyDeleteI love that when I am short on money, I can still make my kids a birthday or christmas gift. That I can send someone a hug when I am to far to give them one in real life.

ReplyDeleteGreat question! I love sewing, and specifically quilting, as a surprising creative outlet. I never thought I was very good at anything non-mathematical (although I suppose quilting is!) but to see what I can create with fabric...well, it is quite OK! And that makes me happy!

What delightful fabric! Besides all the personal benefits of quilting, it's turned out to be a great fundraiser for my church and some other local charities I support. I've sewn raffle quilts and silent auction quilts. And I've made a lot of new friends in my guild. Thanks for your generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteQuilting has meant that I can give useful and personal gifts to people. They know how much love is put into each item when they receive one. Thanks for the lovely giveaway

ReplyDeleteQuilting has allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and experiment with new designs and patterns.
ReplyDeleteCrafting has helped me connect with my artistic side.
ReplyDeleteI have struck up a wonderful friendship with another Mom from my daughter's school, and it all started because we both like sewing. In fact, we went fabric shopping together this morning!
ReplyDeleteIt taught me how satisfying creating is.
ReplyDeleteI too have met really nice and interesting people, in the least expected places- the parking lot at school! Thanks for the chance and the fabrics are amazing!!!

well I have to agree with you about making new friends through quilting and blogging. I have been blessed to actually meet several internet friends in person and that only strengthens the friendship.
