Giveaway Day!

*****This Giveaway is now closed.  I'll be back soon to announce the winner!******

We're half way through the twice-a-year giveaway extravaganza that is the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day/Week.  OK, so I'm late to the party, but it's never to late to give something away, right?!  If you're like me, you've been spending waaaay too much time doing some blog hopping checking out all the goodies up for grabs out there.  And if you by some chance don't know about this, get thee quickly over to the Sew Mama Sew site and check it out for yourself!

As for my giveaway, I'm sharing some (mostly) new faves -  A fat quarter of each of these:

Included are these two Little Kukla prints.  I love those dolls and those birds!

And also this Notting Hill (Dewberry) and a Kaufman print titled Sei.

These little pretties will make a happy addition to someone's stash.

To win, please leave a comment on this post answering the following question:  What has been an unexpected benefit that quilting/crafting has brought to your life??  You know, aside from having a beautiful quilt/other finished object.  For me, I have been so thankful for all the connections with other people who love to make things too.  Friendships that started out as having a similar hobby have grown into true friendships. I'm so thankful to be part of such a creative community!  Y'all inspire me to keep trying new things, so thanks for that.  I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

The details:  Giveaway open until Friday May 10 @ 5 PM PST.  A winner will be randomly chosen and I will contact them by Sunday May 12.  Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you so I don't have to choose another winner!  As always, followers new and old get a second entry - just leave a comment saying so!

Good luck y'all!

  2. gorgeous fabrics..I love the color! I started quilting b/c I wanted my children to each have soemthing handmade from me that they could have for years, and then I got hooked, it has become a great way to unwind at the end of the day and also the amount of people that you are able to meet online and talk to and connect with is amazing.

  3. Flickr! I love it and the challenge I can get from swapping with other amazing quilters.

  4. My grandmother quilted but I never learned how when she was alive. Now years later I often think of her life when I'm patching a quilt and how much harder women had it between sewing/cooking/cleaning without today's modern appliances. She must have given up a lot of sleep to make a beautiful quilt by hand. It makes me appreciate what I have but also yearn for simplicity.

  5. I started quilting after my daughter was born. I was seeing all of these really pretty blankets and quilts and I thought I could do that and I would love for my daughter to pass it on to her future children. It's a way for me to unwind. My husband works nights (Army) so I'm with my daughter 24/7 (which I love) but I fell in love with quilting and the fact that it was a time all to myself. I should be sleeping but it's really awesome when someone else appreciates the work you've done and knowing that you've created an heirloom for another family to treasure and love. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  33. Wow - these are gorgeous prints. Thank you for the chance to win them :)

Sewing has taught me patience. I had to learn to slow down, measure twice (cut once) and just be patient when it comes to making a sewing project. That undoing stitches is sometimes part of the journey and that by giving myself the space I can really make complicated, gorgeous things :)

Other than that I agree with you - connecting with people. I was amazed to see how many people I knew did sewing as well, so we all help each other with little insider tips. It's like bookclub for crafters - hahaha.

  148. I am fairly new to quilting, but a few years ago I did a few charm square swaps with a group of my friends. I sewed the binding on my quilt as I recovered from a heartbreaking miscarriage, and as I curled up under my quilt it was if my friends were there comforting me with a big hug. That quilt covers my bed every night and is a reminder of the support and friendship I share with a very special group of women. A quilt is so much more than fabric and stitches.

  150. What a CUTE bundle of fabric! I love quilting because I'm peaceful when I sew - my thoughts relax! And like you say, the connection with people has been amazing. With other crafters and also with people who don't sew who I sell or give work to. It's really a wonderful thing.

For me, in addition to the great community of people I've met (and continue to meet), it's finding something just for me and it developing into a passion. 164. Great question! I love sewing, and specifically quilting, as a surprising creative outlet. I never thought I was very good at anything non-mathematical (although I suppose quilting is!) but to see what I can create with fabric...well, it is quite OK! And that makes me happy!

I have been blessed to actually meet several internet friends in person and that only strengthens the friendship. Some of them even introduce you to new tastes (LINDT dark chocolate with sea salt). Are you feeling guilty yet?
